Lacemaking

Lacemaking has without doubt been known in our lands from as early as the 12th century, as has been borne out by findings from the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, where net lace has been discovered. It was mainly skilful Czech women who created beautiful decorations to be added to traditional dresses and folk costumes. The Bohemian Forest, Šumava, the Ore Mountains and the environs of the Eagle Mountains, especially the area around Vamberk, have traditionally been considered the centres of Czech lacemaking.

However, interest in lace went in to decline after a period of development. Moreover, many people today are unaware that traditional handmade lace can have a wonderful modern appearance. As such, the efforts of every artist and maintainer of the tradition, who works tirelessly on making lace and especially on expanding the awareness of all things that can be made from lace, are appreciated all the more. It is sufficient to view a few photographs or to visit some market stands with handmade lace to get a clear idea of how lace has entered the 21st century. Flawless lace is an interplay of individual motifs and their correct combination into a perfect unit. In addition to the classical lace fabric, this technique can also be used to create a wide range of original pieces of jewellery, decorations and accessories.

The creation of a precise original motif requires imagination and a sense of detail. Mrs Jiřina Rejentová creates lace jewellery, interior decorations and lace for clothing according to her own original designs. Thanks to the almost 30 years that Mrs Jiřina Rejentová has devoted to full-time lacemaking, she has rightfully received a certificate and a trademark with the name Eagle Mountain original product [Orlické hory originální produkt]. Handmade lace still has its place in the sun, because you are bound to fall in love with its modern rendition.
