The typical Czech breed of the Kladruber horse has had a long and interesting history, during which it has experienced glory, but also the threat of extinction. The exhibition is located in a wonderful, romantic building that used to serve as the gamekeeper’s lodge. The building’s name comes from the fact that it was based on a chalet in the Swiss Alps [Švýcar = Swiss]. The museum focuses on the history of breeding, as well as that of the town of Slatiňany and the Švýcárna. The exhibits include a wide range of items associated with horse breeding, riding or carriage riding, such as saddles, whips, collars and so on. The exhibition also includes the life story of Professor Bílek who was instrumental in saving the Kladruber black horse. The screening hall shows films about horses, shoeing, reproductive issues and many other topics. The museum is also suitable for families with children. The interactive section includes a large horse box with a realistic figurine, which can be fitted with a bridal and a saddle. Children can try out the carriage simulator or play horse-themed games. The most popular element remains the option of climbing up onto the largest plush horse in the Czech Republic. The attic houses an exhibition entitled “Farm Facilities” [Hospodářského zázemí] with examples of some of the farm animals that were bred there. This area is followed by the “Magic Room” [Magická místnost], which is full of optical illusions. The outdoor facility contains a number of things to play with as well as a photo wall. The best way to access the Museum of the Kladruber Horse is by car and there is a car park available next to the château. However, there is also a bus stop and the journey from the railway station in Slatiňany is not that long. The opening hours differ depending on the given month, so you should check in advance to make sure that you arrive on time.
